There were some incredibly intelligent and results delivering ads I came across this year. Here's a countdown of the 8 best ads from 2015.

Before I begin talking about 8 of my most favourite ads of 2015, I wanted to speak on the year as a whole, from a personal stand point. Joining the Market One Media Group team has lead me to working with the most talented and intelligent people in Canada, in every business sector you could think of. One task handed to me was telling the world about the 1,111 carat diamond found by Lucara Diamond via social media. And did that go viral! Over 600 million people across the world saw or heard about the story in only 1 week and raised the company's profile in so many magnificent ways. Getting it trending on Facebook and Twitter is definitely a moment I will not forget. Another campaign I had the wonderful opportunity to take on was handling the digital strategy for the world's first vegetable based non-dairy product, Veggemo. They have been doing incredibly well and it's now available in many of the major grocery stores Canada wide. If you haven't heard of it or tried it, I highly suggest you do. It tastes really good, no bias ;). I just wanted to thank the Market One team as well as my friends and family for their support this year. It's a blessing to have a group around you that supports and believes in what you're doing.

When you see your hard work come to fruition! What a great feeling 😊 #LetsGoVeggemo

Let's get to business, bro. Show me these ads

Sorry, might have rambled on above but I just had to speak on that. Getting to the topic at hand, there were so many brilliant ads we saw this year, but my goal for this list was to show why being unique in your advertising campaign is essential to delivering the best results. We tend to forget that advertisements are made to drive sales or deliver some sort of result. There's no point creating something that will not give you what you're looking for. It's an absolute waste of time and resources. Now that may seem like a pointless note, but how many car ads have you seen and can actually remember or gave you a reason to do more research on the vehicle being advertised? Not many, right? It's because they are all so similar to one another and your mind automatically switches off when a car ad comes on because BORING ads won't spur any emotion or call to action.

The top ads in 2015 every critic loves are the ones that are memorable and stand out from everyone else. This is down to the fact that consumers know how advertising works and are smart about it. Doing the same, repetitive stuff, doesn't work anymore. Moreover, the demographic that see these ads the most are millennials. And millennials want something that can evoke emotion and a sense of belonging and don't care if it's an ad they're seeing (eg Buzzfeed). They are easy to please and also very easy to displease (I know this because I am one of them). This new appeal to have creative and genius ads is great for the advertising industry. It makes our work fun and interesting.

You still haven't shown me these ads, bro

Sorry, again. It was important for me to explain why I chose this set. I want to make sure you look for themes I have mentioned from these ads.

Okay, let's do this. I'm really excited to share this list with you. If you have any comments or feedback, please leave a comment at the bottom or connect with me on Twitter or LinkedIn.

8. Clash of Clans: Revenge

Clash of Clans advertises way too much and the game never appealed to me. But when I saw this, first reaction was to hit up the App Store. Congratulations Clash of Clans, you got a new user.

7. Homer Simpson Saves the Day with YouTube

My love for tech and creativity is apparent. And YouTube nailed it with this ad in so many ways from showing how easy it is to use the Google Ads network to how it can help with your business.

6. Android: Friends Furever

This was the most shared ad of 2015. How amazing is it that such a simple and fun ad can do so well :) Still #TeamiPhone though.

5. Puppyhood

BuzzFeed is brilliant and so is their business model. They have turned the advertising world upside down with their content and it's wonderful to see. This video makes you feel some type of way.

4. The Collective Project: Robert Downey Jr. Delivers a Real Bionic Arm

It was either the Apple iPhone 6s ad or this. But this one was definitely better. Microsoft, well done.

3. Adidas: Create Your Own Game feat. Messi, Bale, James, Özil, Müller, Rubio

If you're a football fan, there is no way you watch this and don't get that tingling effect to go out and kick a ball around.

2. Disney Characters Surprise Shoppers

The fact that this ad will make you feel all fuzzy inside, no matter how old you are, is a testament to Disney's brilliance in evoking happy emotions.

1. “Slap her": Children's Reactions

This was a public service announcement from an Italian video journalist and it gained more than 31 million views on YouTube. The reaction on those faces when asked to do the unthinkable gives you faith in humanity.

If you prefer a slideshow, that's cool too.

I made one below for you to see :)
